Turn! Turn! Turn!

I’m thinking of Pete Seeger, who died yesterday at 94 after a full and active life of song and advocacy for peace.

This is one of Seeger’s songs, as sung by the Byrds (1965); it was my favorite song when I was 9 years old. I recognized it was from Ecclesiastes, and I loved the simple tune.

A time to be born, a time to die. Elegy & celebration.

Ann, I happened to watch a PBS segment 3 days ago in which Pete Seeger and Judy Collins were singing together “Turn, Turn. Turn.” The date was 1963. It was timelessly awesome! I, too, love the Ecclesiastes passage. But when Roger McGuinn read the lyrics, he didn’t think it would be much of a song. But then he heard Collins sing it, and had to record it with the Bryds! The rest is history!

    I love the elegy.
I can’t get the video to play, though. Is it me?
    Anyway, thanks Ann!
